Did You Take A Shower...?
Did you take a SHOWER today?
How about yesterday or the day before?
What is the longest you've gone without a SHOWER?
A few days or even more than a week?
You know that filthy feeling when you REALLY need a shower?
The layer of filth on your skin,
You can't wait to wash off,
How AMAAAZIIING does it feel when you're done with your shower?
Oh soooo refreshingly gooood!!
That's how it should be with your DAILY time with God.
DAILY God time is like a spiritual shower,
It's SUPPOSED to be refreshing,
It's SUPPOSED to be invigorating,
It's SUPPOSED to be something you CRAVE and DESIRE,
But what happened?
Why don't we CRAVE time with God?
Why don't we RUN towards EXTRA time with God?
Why are we at bare minimum or NO time with God?
Well, if you don't know what a nice hot shower feels like,
You won't ever crave it.
If you don't know what clean feels like,
You won't ever miss it.
A destitute 3rd world country child doesn't CRAVE a long hot shower,
Because they don't know what it is,
They don't know what they're missing,
And that's the same way with us,
We've been trained by the world from birth,
To NOT spend time with God,
So we don't know what we're missing.
If you're like me...
I did NOT know that spending time with God could be FUN or EXCITING,
I did NOT know that CHATTING with God was a thing,
I did NOT know ASKING Him about EVERYthing was a thing,
I did NOT know getting REAL, PRACTICAL answers to EVERYthing was a thing,
Who'd a thunk it?
How was I supposed to know?
As a result,
The Bible was BORING,
Praying was BORING,
God time was BORING,
It was just all BORING.
But THEN...
After a couple decades of having ZERO interest in God,
I stumbled across the notion that we're DESIGNED to hear God's voice,
And that it can be LEARNED.
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me"
Whhhaattt?!?!?
That was a game changer.
I started out wobbly,
I was pooping in my diapers,
I didn't know what I was doing,
But God knew what He was doing,
He held me in His hands,
And sent people to teach me,
Holy Spirit also taught me,
And I fell in LOVE with my DAILY time with God.
"You will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart."
I DON'T do it because I want to be a "good" Christian,
I do it because it's VALUABLE,
It's LIFE-changing,
It's PEACE-giving,
It's a NON-negotiable.
I get answers on business decisions,
I get answers on marketing ideas,
I get answers on who to hire,
I get answers on how much to spend, when and where,
I get answers on arranging my schedule,
I get answers on my food choices,
I get answers on my exercise routines,
I get answers on my lead generation,
I get answers on EVERYthing.
It's so VALUABLE that if I go to an event or conference,
If I don't have my ALONE God time,
I'm not starting my day.
I'd rather MISS the first session than miss my ALONE time with God,
I'd rather sleep less to ensure my ALONE time with God,
Because my ONE-on-ONE time with God is the MOST VALUABLE thing,
NOTHING beats my ALONE time with God.
I learned this from my mentor/teacher/sister in Christ,
She was the example,
She was the role model,
She showed me that was a THING,
She kept on talking about it,
And every time I heard it,
It just felt RIGHT,
So it became my own.
I share this with you in hopes that this mindset can become YOUR own,
I pray that YOUR God time can become SOOOOOO valuable,
That no event,
No business deal,
No appointment,
No party or event,
Will top your ALONE time with God.
I pray that a day will come,
When your daily spiritual shower is NON-negotiable,
That your daily ALONE time with God feels like a bubble bath,
Like a deep tissue massage,
Like a scalp rub,
Like a foot scrub,
Refreshing and delightful,
That it becomes NON-negotiable for you too.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."
I pray that your ALONE time with God feels like,
A fresh spring in the middle of a desert,
A slice of sweet watermelon on a hot summer day,
A hot spring in the middle of a cold winter day,
It just feels oh so GOOOOOD!!
If there is one prayer God is SUPER eager to answer,
It's a prayer to draw closer to Him.
He is SUPER eager to hear you say that prayer,
And He will immediately dispatch angels to open up that path for you.
"Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart."
EXPECT good things when you ask God to help you draw closer to Him,
It WILL happen!
"Dear Heavenly Father,
I want to get to know You better,
I want to ENJOY You,
I want to DELIGHT in You,
I want to BASK in Your glory,
I want to SHOWER in Your presence,
I want to be TRANSFORMED by You.
But I don't know how,
Help.
You're not FUN for me YET,
You're not EXCITING to me YET,
You're not FASCINATING to me YET,
You're not TOP of mind for me YET,
But I want You to be,
Help.
I call upon your promise that You will fight my battles for me,
Including my DIS-interest in You,
I lay it down at Your feet,
Lord, do something NEW in me,
Help me fall madly and DEEPLY in LOVE with You,
In Jesus name, Amen."
